Which Do You Feed?

Two Wolves – A Cherokee Parable

Author Unknown

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life…

“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

“One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego.

“The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

“This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,
“Which wolf will win?”

The old chief simply replied,
“The one you feed.”

Such a beautiful tale… It explains one of the most important basic questions of the philosophy, this ambivalence in the human personality.

      Hi Julie,

I think one of the main reasons we incarnate to this dimension is to experience that duality within us.

That’s a great story! Well in my own opinion, I rather look for some grass to feed than to eat some meat.

I love the philosophy of life shows at the image above, that humanity is more often like to feed of what others do…

I really like this analogy, just like the jing and jang in the oriental culture.

Todd … This thought provoking short parable sums up the constant battle inside us all… The fight between good and evil in its most primitive state. Very well done …

The best thing that you can do is to let it go in one ear and out the other, just like any other parenting advice that you get. Everybody thinks that they are better at raising your kids than you are. This is a fact that parents just have to face and accept. Unfortunately, these other people are wrong, because nobody knows your exact situation.
