At times, many times in my life, I would wonder if I was “cool” enough. I wanted to be that guy all the girls chased and the same guy that all the other guys wanted to hang around. I started getting into fights because I thought it would boost my “cool points.” When my peers sagged their pants and tried to look like a thug, I was right there doing the same thing and trying to fit in with the crowd. If being “cool” meant that I had to “put other people down”, then that is exactly what I would do.
When I looked in the mirror, I was not looking at William and to tell you the truth, I do not know who I was looking at. Somewhere in the scheme of life, I lost touch with who I was and picked up bad habits. Luckily, I have found simple ways to get rid of the bad habits. They worked for me and they might just work for you!
The Pursuit of Happiness
You are no different from me, at least in the sense that we both desire happiness. We want to wake up on the “right” side of the bed every morning. We want to feel blessed while living on this earth. We wish that the everyday hassles would not ruin them.
I know, life can hit us with tough situations, but that is when we must look for the good within the bad because there is always something positive that can come out of any situation. Instead of focusing on the negatives, try focusing on the positives.
For instance, if someone close to your heart died, try not to go into deep depression because that would not be what they would of have wanted. In most cases, they would have wanted us to know that they are in a better place. We have the power to control our state of mind. If we want to be happy, we must always think positive!
Parents Have Wisdom!
We will never be our parents equal because they have spent more years on this earth. In our lives, everything that we have done our parents have been there and already done that. They have experience in many areas of life that we do not. It might be hard, but that is why we should listen when they talk.
One thing that I will never forget is how my father used to always tell me that association breeds assimilation. It meant that if I hung around negative people, eventually, but surely I would also develop a negative mindset.
As we are growing up, it is easy to become a follower without realizing it. We might not be able to see ourselves changing, but our parents can see everything crystal clear. They know us almost as well as we know ourselves, so before we listen to another person who knows next to nothing about us, we should talk to our parents because they will lookout for us when we cannot.
Alone Time Is Priceless
Life is crazy and the everyday difficulties of surviving take a lot of time. It can be hard to find time for ourselves, but that is the time we need most. In our alone time, we can actually do what we want!
For example, we can play video games, watch T.V shows, or even run around the house naked! Not that we should run around naked, but you get my point. The thoughts that we have come through our heads stronger and visions become clearer.
It is easy to focus on what is best for us when there is no one talking in our ear and telling us what they think is best for us. For that alone time, however long or short it may be, we can live our lives uninfluenced by the people around us and find a deeper connection with ourselves.
Our lives change every day. We have our ups and downs. The good comes with the bad. No one is perfect and so no one is any better than anyone else. Happiness comes from enjoying the skin we are in and living every day with a positive attitude. Follow these tips and when you look in the mirror, you will know who you are looking at.
