A couple of weeks ago I purchased my first pendulum from a local metaphysical store. I really didn’t know much about pendulum dowsing; I had been introduced to the idea from my cousin who had been using one to communicate with her deceased son. I have to admit that I was skeptical at first because I really didn’t know what to expect. After all, couldn’t the person holding the pendulum just be moving it unintentionally or perhaps intentionally? After I did a little research I discovered that pendulums are just a tool to communicate with the higher self, spirit guides or perhaps another spiritual entity. In a way, they are similar to the Ouija boards which, unfortunately, have gotten much negative criticism over the years. I decided to put any preconceived conjecture aside and just give it a shot to satisfy my own curiosity.
It wasn’t until a few days after I made my purchase that I was able to find some alone time and give this pendulum dowsing a try. I sat at my kitchen table and placed my elbow on the table while holding the pendulum in my hand with my wrist slightly bent. I went through the standard protocol of asking the pendulum to identify the “yes” and “no” directional swings. Needless to say, I was rather intrigued when the pendulum bob started to move on its own with no apparent help from me. I made every effort to keep my arm and hand as still as possible so that I could be certain that I was not moving it. Sure enough, that damn thing would swing from side to side, back and forth, and sometimes in circles. Over the next few days I played around a lot asking all kind of questions, but not taking the answers too seriously since the pendulum seemed to contradict itself at times giving me yes one day and no the next for the same question. I even printed out a pendulum chart and asked my questions, watching as the pendulum would swing over certain answers.
There were a few mistakes I made that I didn’t realize could influence the energy of the pendulum. When I first purchased it I failed to cleanse any energies that may have already been attached to it, and I also let other people handle it. Thankfully, I got some great tips from Julie at IntuitiveJournal on how to cleanse my pendulum as well as some helpful guidelines on pendulum dowsing techniques. After I cleansed my crystal bob and put into practice some other techniques I really noticed a difference in how the pendulum performed. My “yes” and “no” answers are now much more pronounced and at times I can actually feel the energy flowing through my hand as the pendulum swings. Now when I place the pendulum over a chart and ask a question the bob almost seems as if it has a mind of its own. It swings as though some invisible hand is guiding its every move. Sometimes it almost feels as though there is an unseen force that is pulling the bob in different directions. Depending on the pendulum chart and my question the bob will immediately start swinging counterclockwise as soon as I place it over the chart. It will swing in a circle for several seconds then come to a complete stop; then it will start swinging over each directional answer as if it is “reading” each one till it finally swings on just one! Unbelievable!
This whole experience is beyond amazing and I am looking forward to really seeing what this pendulum can answer, as well as foretell. However, I am still uncertain about what is actually causing this pendulum to move. I have asked several times if my higher self is responsible for moving it, and all but once the answer has been a definite “yes.” The one time that I did get a “no” I asked if one of my guides was moving the pendulum and I got a “yes.” I realize I am still new to all of this and rather inexperienced so I will continue to practice and get definitive answers before I share with any of you what I am being told. When I get good enough and I can trust what is being revealed to me I might even consider taking questions from my readers as an experiment to see how accurate these things can be. I’ve read that a pendulum basically allows us to tap into our subconscious mind and gives us access to our intuition that we have unknowingly programmed to ignore. So whether or not one can be used to answer questions from a third person perspective is still unknown to me, but it is an area I would certainly love to explore.
