Obama…Monsanto’s Puppet?

When I recently wrote GM Food Awareness I wanted to give my readers more information about what foods are genetically modified and how it is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid these genetically modified foods, especially here in the United States. I am sad to say that I recently read an article that exposes what would appear to be more corruption when it comes to Monsanto and Washington.  According to the article, President Obama recently pushed to deregulated genetically modified alfalfa and sugar beets in the United States.

In my previous post I mentioned the three biggest GM foods being corn, soybeans, and canola made it very difficult to avoid GMOs in the average American diet.  With the addition of alfalfa and sugar beets to the list of genetically modified organisms Americans will soon feel the tightening grip of Monsanto’s strangle hold upon our food supply.  The excerpts below, taken from the article, show just how alarming the GM crisis is becoming.  Soon, Americans will be faced with no choice but to consume genetically modified foods.  I hope you will take the time to read the articles in the links I have provided and also share this information with friends and family.

Sugar beets provide over 50 percent of the sugar Americans use in their coffee, cereals, and desserts. For the moment, let’s not focus on the fact that sugar beets can cross-pollinate with red beets and make our borscht genetically modified.

Alfalfa reaches our tables within milk, cream, butter, and meat, as it is used as a major animal feed in the dairy industry. It is also used to enrich soils in organic farming.

    Hey Todd,
The average person doesn’t know what GM foods are and how they can affect us.

Thanks for bringing this topic to light. Some refer to GM foods are “Franken-Food” because they are genetically modified.

I wonder if genetically modified food could genetically modify us since we are what we eat.

      Hi Justin,

I think you touched on something here that many have been fearing since GM foods started appearing in our grocery stores. We are what we eat and the toxins from the GM foods are starting to show up in our bodies. Thanks for bringing up that great point.

I’m not so terribly afraid of GM food, since I’d rather eat foods that are designed to be healthy for us.

That said, I don’t think Monsanto has our health in mind. And neither does our govt. Its all a numbers game and money makes it all work.

We need to demand more accountability. The FDA doesnt regulate bc they say the companies should care about their consumers health. So no one is doing anything. Very frightening.

      Hi David,

I wouldn’t say am terribly afraid either, I am just concerned because it is getting increasingly difficult to avoid that stuff. I would also like to see more accountability, however, it seems that as each year passes by our govt gets away with more and more while the people idly sit back and accept what is taking place. Thanks again for commenting.

Todd, I try to find the balance between not giving any energy to genetically modified foods (they don’t really affect my reality), and eating intuitively (my body will tell me when something is not good for me). This way of eating has very naturally taken me away from meat, dairy, corn, wheat, sugar and all of the other items mentioned, which I do think is interesting.

Again, I try not to give it too much energy, but there are times when I’m really glad I don’t live in the US anymore.. 😉

    Hugs,
    Melody

      Hi Melody,

That is a great approach by not giving energy to GMOs. It really comes down to a choice for us all, I’m just afraid that soon we won’t have a choice because GMOs will be in everything we eat. Thanks again for the comment.

      Hi Haley,

That was the point I was trying to make with this post, it is getting very difficult to avoid GMOs here in the USA. Thanks.

I believe Melody has the right idea, perhaps the best way to avoid GM foods is a Vegan diet. God has spke to me years ago and lead me to a diet avoiding, wheat, dairy, corn, soy and beef. I use coconut or olive oil to cook with. And eat clean hormone and antibiotic free poultry and fish. I pray that people will stand up for their health rights and vote not to buy these GM foods. Maybe our chances are better if we buy local and ask the farmers if their crops have GM’s?

    Todd,
Thank you for you nice comments on my blog post about emotions…and I just hopped right over to see what you are offering up. Looking good and I like the GF ad on your home page…My family has Celiac Disease so for 32 years I have been cooking organic and gluten free for everyone.

Monsanto has been on my radar for a long, long time….but then I just read an article about what they feed their employees in the cafeteria of their headquarters – They have a 5 star organic chef and only serve non- GMO Organic foods to their folks…How about them apples?

      Hi Patricia,

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Monsanto knows just as well as we do the dangers of eating GM foods, so of course they won’t feed it to their employees.

GMO foods scare me. When fruit and veggies look too pretty, I stay away. I wish the FDA and food companies would buckle down on the regulations on farming. I stayed in Mexico for a week and ate all organic foods from an organic farm. Just eating so pure for one week made drastic changes to my body, my mood and my energy. I am very careful about what I purchase at the store. I try to hit up farmers markets as much as possible. Even then I am skeptical so I usually ask the farmers a million questions.

      Hi Meg,

I agree that the FDA needs to crack down, however, I believe powerful companies like Monsanto have their puppets in most administrations. I am careful too about what I buy, we just have to be diligent. Thanks for the comment.

Because I am a vegetarian, I found this interesting. I never thought about soybeans being genetically modified. You have opened my eyes. After some searching on the internet, I found this site http://www.non-gmoreport.com/ that I will be using as a resource.

    Thanks for sharing this

      Hi Lisa,

Thanks for the link. I know it can be surprising to find out what foods have been genetically modified, the best we can do is raise awareness. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    Hi Todd,

A good way to combat GM foods is to eat local. It boggles my mind that we give little thought to where our food comes from and that our governments encourage real estate developments in former farms without considering the health consequences. I’m disappointed with the president if he voted that way. Doesn’t he care what his children eat? They’ll be no escape for anyone the way these crops conquer other crops. thx. G.

      Hi Giulietta,

I’m disappointed in the president as well, I bet his children eat all organic foods and don’t have to worry about the poisons entering their bodies. Thanks for commenting.
