Souls Zombies and Judgement Day

For this post I thought it would be fun to stray from my typical type of posts and let all of you in on my recent wild musings.  Before I begin it might be a good idea to share with you my core beliefs so the rest might make more sense.  Deep down I am merely an agnostic who has tolerance for a wide range of beliefs. Although I may not agree with certain beliefs, I will never fully discount any theory; after all, anything is possible.  I am also a true skeptic and I don’t believe in anything whole heartedly unless I’ve been given enough evidence to prove otherwise.  With that being said, I do agree with the belief in reincarnation and a soul that exists after the physical body dies. This belief in the eternal soul is the subject of my crazy questions of late, let’s have some fun.

The other day I was lounging around at home and a thought came to my mind.  Could a body exist without a soul?  Reincarnation basically is the belief that a soul is eternal and lives several lifetimes in the physical realm.  From my understanding, a soul incarnates into the physical body sometime during pregnancy or shortly after birth.  With that being said, is there ever a possibility that a baby can be born into the world and no soul inhabits the body?  If so, what would that person be like?  Would this person still be capable of experiencing the full range of emotions?  What would their dreams be like?  Would there ever be a desire for spiritual understanding?

With the idea of a soulless body still permeating my mind I happened onto an article on Before Its News about the CDC issuing a zombie attack warning.  Now I’m not going to get into the validity of the article, but play along if you like.  Most of us have probably seen, or at least heard of, a recent zombie movie or TV series.  The human zombies are usually the result of some kind of mutant virus or disease rendering the infected into flesh eating creatures.  If a human body ever did exist without a soul would it be similar to the zombies we’ve all seen in the movies?

Now that we’ve covered soulless bodies and zombies we might as well take it one step further and tie it all together.  Most of you are probably familiar with religious predictions about the end of the world.  The most recent dooms day prediction is from Harold Camping from Family Radio.  Mr. Camping predicts that judgment day will be this Saturday, May 21st 2011.  I’m not sure about the logistics but the rapture and judgment day will begin on this prophesied date.  Harold and his followers will be taken to heaven in the rapture; whether or not they will be going with their bodies or just their souls is unknown, but let’s stretch our imaginations here and assume that their souls leave their bodies.

It is my prediction that on May 21st 2011 the rapture will occur leaving millions of soulless bodies that will become flesh eating zombies.  The rest of us that are left here on earth will be forced to fend for ourselves against the hoards of soulless zombies.  The souls that left the earth will be in turn forced to reincarnate into babies born from the walking dead, creating an endless cycle of death and reincarnation for Harold Camping and his followers.

I hope you enjoyed my far-fetched story and got a good laugh out of it.  Although I mentioned earlier that I don’t discount any theory, I have to admit this one of mine is just a little too out there, even for me.  I still am curious about the soulless body and whether or not the human qualities we all possess would still exist in a person without a soul.  Maybe we will all find out this Saturday (imagine scary music playing in the background.)

LOL Todd. I have the Zombie Survival Guide in my bookshelf, just in case. 😀
Seriously, though, on the subject of soulless bodies, I believe (and you don’t have to agree) that the “soul” or the energy of who we really are is so much bigger than our physical selves. We project a small part of ourselves into this physical realm by lowering it’s vibration enough to make it solid. So, the soul bit comes first and actually creates the physical body. Just my view, though. A small part of me thinks Zombies would be so cool… :)

Interesting view point Melody. I’m not really sure what to believe, I guess I will find out when the time comes. Zombies would be cool as long as they are slow like portrayed in most movies. Thanks for the comment.

Great story and imagination Todd….lol! I’m going to piggy back off of Melody. I feel the soul comes first and actually enters the physical realm. I also do believe that we live out different lifetimes as well.

Hi Kenya, I also feel the soul enters into the physical realm, I guess it’s just a matter of when. Thanks for the comment.

I believe our soul goes through different lifetimes. We come back to learn lessons that we probably haven’t learned in the past ones. This is can be a good thing depending on how we choose to work with the energy we are granted in this incarnation. Nicely done post!

      Hi Baker,

I agree with your statement, I think where I have trouble is trying to understand the evolution of the soul while ignoring my logical thought processes and linear time. Thanks for stopping by.

First off, I’m fascinated with the idea of zombies and the whole post-apocalyptic genre. I imagine this stuff all the time.

Secondly, the idea of souls and zombies never really occurred to me. I like the idea though. I’m not so sure I understand the souls thing, but its such a charming idea that I’d like to believe in it.

Lastly, I do wonder about this whole May 21 thing. Most religions claim that the world will end, so why is everyone bashing on this May 21 thing when THEIR OWN BELIEFS have the SAME IDEA? Sure this one sect set a date, but Christianity has the same idea. So wouldnt they all be just as crazy?

      Hi David,

I have to admit that I also am fascinated by the idea of zombies. I often wonder what I would do if put in that kind of scenario. I think the majority of Christians frown upon prophesied dates about the end of the world because the bibles says no one will know the day or the hour. I guess we will find out in a little over 24 hours. Thanks again for your insightful comments.

Yes, perhaps. I have been finding that most folks though have been out right making fun of the May 21st beliefs and basically (and sometimes literally) saying they are crazy.

But the thing is, they aren’t saying they are crazy bc they know a date. They are saying those folks are crazy bc they believe the world will end (or so soon).

I guess I’m just being all bah humbug.

    Hi Todd,
I love your imagination! I’m feeling pretty good about waking up on May 22nd though! I don’t think that any living thing can “live” without a connection to source energy. I find the idea about zombies fascinating though. Cool post!

      Thanks Angela,

I try to keep things interesting. After reading your comment that does make since about the source energy.

My husband watches all of those movies in the zombie genre and wouldn’t be a bit scared if it actually materialized. I guess I should feel grateful to be married to him because it would scare the pants off me! The idea of soul-less creatures walking around trying to eat my brains is just too much stress for me :) Not to stray too far off the path but I wonder if sociopaths are actually inhabititng and connected to their souls.

    Todd,
I believe that there are soul-less bodies on earth now. These would be similar to agents in the Matrix trilogy.

A body is already programmed with basic function installed. Somebody could upgrade the system without a need for a soul.

Just look into the eyes of someone to see if they have a soul.

      Hi Justin,

Thanks for sharing your ideas. I have to agree with you, I think that a physical body could exist without a soul, I just wonder what these people are like on the inside.

Well Todd as usual you have given us a thinker I am not a real religious person but I do believe in souls so I guess some one that did not have one would have no emotion.

      Hi Valerie,

I have wondered if a body without a soul would have emotions. That just brings up the age old question of where do our emotions come from. Thanks for commenting Valerie.

Well, I am always thinking about the rapture. I watched the movie left behind and read the first part of the book, and I had goosebumps. And I could not imagine if you do not have a soul.

I have never seen the movie “Left Behind” but I do know what it is about. I don’t believe there will ever be a rapture, it is just a belief promoted by religion loosely based on one verse in the bible. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

You are always welcome Todd. The story is very amazing and I do not know want to say if it will really happen in the years to come. But you have a point as well. There are some people who have great faith in the bible. And I surely do as well.

I admire your faith, I guess only time will tell if the biblical prophesies ever do come true.

Hi Todd…You have an excellent imagination. Why don’t you put into a book or movie script? Judgement Day remains a mystery. No one knows until the day comes.

      Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the complement, but I don’t see myself authoring a book. Perhaps an ebook someday.
