For this post I thought it would be fun to stray from my typical type of posts and let all of you in on my recent wild musings. Before I begin it might be a good idea to share with you my core beliefs so the rest might make more sense. Deep down I am merely an agnostic who has tolerance for a wide range of beliefs. Although I may not agree with certain beliefs, I will never fully discount any theory; after all, anything is possible. I am also a true skeptic and I don’t believe in anything whole heartedly unless I’ve been given enough evidence to prove otherwise. With that being said, I do agree with the belief in reincarnation and a soul that exists after the physical body dies. This belief in the eternal soul is the subject of my crazy questions of late, let’s have some fun.
The other day I was lounging around at home and a thought came to my mind. Could a body exist without a soul? Reincarnation basically is the belief that a soul is eternal and lives several lifetimes in the physical realm. From my understanding, a soul incarnates into the physical body sometime during pregnancy or shortly after birth. With that being said, is there ever a possibility that a baby can be born into the world and no soul inhabits the body? If so, what would that person be like? Would this person still be capable of experiencing the full range of emotions? What would their dreams be like? Would there ever be a desire for spiritual understanding?
With the idea of a soulless body still permeating my mind I happened onto an article on Before Its News about the CDC issuing a zombie attack warning. Now I’m not going to get into the validity of the article, but play along if you like. Most of us have probably seen, or at least heard of, a recent zombie movie or TV series. The human zombies are usually the result of some kind of mutant virus or disease rendering the infected into flesh eating creatures. If a human body ever did exist without a soul would it be similar to the zombies we’ve all seen in the movies?
Now that we’ve covered soulless bodies and zombies we might as well take it one step further and tie it all together. Most of you are probably familiar with religious predictions about the end of the world. The most recent dooms day prediction is from Harold Camping from Family Radio. Mr. Camping predicts that judgment day will be this Saturday, May 21st 2011. I’m not sure about the logistics but the rapture and judgment day will begin on this prophesied date. Harold and his followers will be taken to heaven in the rapture; whether or not they will be going with their bodies or just their souls is unknown, but let’s stretch our imaginations here and assume that their souls leave their bodies.
It is my prediction that on May 21st 2011 the rapture will occur leaving millions of soulless bodies that will become flesh eating zombies. The rest of us that are left here on earth will be forced to fend for ourselves against the hoards of soulless zombies. The souls that left the earth will be in turn forced to reincarnate into babies born from the walking dead, creating an endless cycle of death and reincarnation for Harold Camping and his followers.
I hope you enjoyed my far-fetched story and got a good laugh out of it. Although I mentioned earlier that I don’t discount any theory, I have to admit this one of mine is just a little too out there, even for me. I still am curious about the soulless body and whether or not the human qualities we all possess would still exist in a person without a soul. Maybe we will all find out this Saturday (imagine scary music playing in the background.)
