When I first started reading up on New Age ideas I came across the term Infinite or Universal Consciousness. At first, I was intrigued, but after giving it some thought I became confused by the idea and struggled trying to understand what it really meant. As time went on and I researched more I found myself again warming up to this extraordinary viewpoint. This infinite consciousness is basically another way of referring to God, or the creator of all things. And the reason for my initial bewilderment lay solely on my preconceived belief on what “God” was or should be.
In western religion (specifically Christianity) there is God and then there is us, a duality. Although most Christians would say otherwise, we are still given some unsatisfactory explanation of how we are one with Jesus and he is one with God; ultimately, we are still separated from God. In my opinion, it is this preached separation or duality that keeps the religious masses from truly understanding their place in the cosmos. So it was my history with Christianity that hindered me from truly grasping the idea of oneness, which is what Infinite/Universal consciousness is all about.
When I set out to write this post I wanted to do my best to explain what this infinite consciousness was for those who might be struggling with the concept. Unlike major religions that teach a duality between us and God, the idea of infinite consciousness teaches us that we are all one. In essence, we all make up what is God. This oneness or connection we all share with each other and with the Infinite gives every one of us the keys to limitless knowledge since the beginning of creation. Imagine all the knowledge since creation was accessible to all of us, what if we could tap into that abyss of data? That is what Channeling Myself (channeling my higher self) is an attempt at. Since I can better understand analogies let me attempt to explain infinite consciousness with one.
First, let’s start with the idea of duality. There is God and then there is the rest of creation including us humans. I have a pretty good understanding of how the Internet works so I am going to attempt to explain duality and oneness by comparing them to the Internet. Don’t worry; you won’t need to have knowledge of how the Internet works to understand my analogy. In the simplest of terms, the Internet is basically an enormous collection of computers all hooked up (networked) together. There are servers that supply information like web pages and clients (me and you) that request that information. Companies like Google and Yahoo own those servers and people like me and you sit at our computers and gain access to all that wonderful information. This web page you are reading is stored on a server and when you came to my site you essentially requested this web page from a server. These servers are located all over the world and are owned by various individuals and companies. But for the sake of this story let’s assume that there is one central location where there is one gargantuan server (God) and the rest of the client computers (living beings) are all connected to this server. Let’s also assume that this server (God) has all the knowledge of the known creation stored on it. Now imagine all the connected computers (living beings) only having limited knowledge and can only request additional information from the server (God). Whether or not that information is given is entirely up to the server (God) because a firewall prevents any unauthorized intrusions. These computers are not connected to each other so knowledge is independent of every computer. This is what I imagine as the duality or the separation from God.
Now let’s apply this same scenario to oneness, the infinite or universal consciousness, and make a few changes. Again, imagine that gargantuan centrally located server with all the computers (you and me) hooked up to it. This server also has infinite knowledge; however, instead of being denied access all the connected computers (living beings) have full access to that endless supply of data. The individual computers are also connected so knowledge is not independent but can be shared. Now think of this entire conglomerate of connected computers and the one central server all equally sharing infinite knowledge, this is the oneness that makes up God. Instead of the server being God (duality) the whole mass, server and computers make up God (oneness). You and I and all living things help to make up what is the Infinite Consciousness. And through us the Infinite is experiencing everything we experience.
Now I know what you are going to say, “Todd, how in the world do we become aware of the infinite consciousness within us?” I long for the answer to that question as much as you do. And hopefully we will discover the doors to our consciousness enlightenment together. Consciousness is what binds us, it is what makes us part of the whole; it is the energy that gives us the power to create our reality. We no longer have to sit back and experience life as though we were riding on a bus waiting and wondering where it will take us. We have the power to sit in the driver’s seat and take control of where we are going. Embrace infinite consciousness and start your journey towards the discovery of answers that have eluded you up till now. Let go of your fears and open your mind to all possibilities, your spiritual journey starts now.

Todd, how in the world do we become aware of the infinite consciousness within us?
My answer is learn how to open your record within the Akashic Records.
Thanks for your comment. I am open to that answer as well. Accessing the Akashic Records would be quite an experience. Have you been able to do it?
I had no idea what the Akashic Records were, although I’ve heard Sylvia Browne refer to them. So I looked it up, and according to Wikipedia: The akashic records, or “Book of Life”, is a term used in theosophy (and Anthroposophy) to describe a compendium of mystical knowledge encoded in a non-physical plane of existence. These records are described as containing all knowledge of human experience and the history of the cosmos. They are metaphorically described as a library; other analogies commonly found in discourse on the subject include a “universal supercomputer” and the “Mind of God”. People who describe the records assert that they are constantly updated automatically and that they can be accessed through astral projection or when someone is placed under deep hypnosis. Souls prior to being incarnated go to a ‘library’ and view the pages associated with the life they are considering. The pages are not necessarily sequential. Although there may be definitive way points along the course of our lives, our free will can change paths, events and outcomes. As the soul prepares for a life with the intent of learning a particular lesson or satisfying a karmic debt, the soul will also choose a family and a body that will help them with the lessons for this incarnation. For many, some of those images survive “birth amnesia” and become our intuition.
It kind of seems to me that we aren’t meant to know what’s in the Akashic Records. If we were, why would we have “birth amnesia” in the first place? Then again, maybe one of our goals in our incarnation is to increase our spiritual awareness; one of the ways of doing that would be to somehow get access to your individual record.
One of the things I remember reading when I got into New Age ideas, was that we are not only incarnating to learn lessons or satisfy karmic debt, but also to have experiences for “God”. That Infinite consciousness can only experience the physical through us. And it wants to experience EVERYTHING, including negativity. If the other side is made up of pure love, then God would already know what that’s like. He would want to experience pain, fear, uncertainty, sadness, etc. Like the yin and yang of life experiences.
Hi, Todd,
I like your analogy of infinite consciousness compared to internet…server and the users.:) It explains well the idea of the fact that we are all one, that when we are united we make one infinite force. That’s the way I see it-the Creator is within all of us.

Hi Kristina,
Thanks for the kinds words. I really believe that we are all connected in some way, the only thing I could compare it to was the Internet.
If we are all connected does that mean, for example, that if someone close to me, such as one of my family members, is a gargantuan putz, I am a putz too by association?
If that were the case then I would have been doomed from birth seeing how I’m the younger brother of a putz.
I’m amazed how you defined the internet compared to the idea of duality. I am not a pro on the internet but I understand what you are implying very well.

Yes indeed very well explained. The topic of duality is very deep and hard to understand but you make it so simple.
