Good Vibrations

Imagine being able to consciously leave your body and go anywhere your heart desired.  Would you travel somewhere outside this planet, say to the moon or another planet?  Would you visit friends or relatives that live in another part of the country or world?  Or perhaps you would venture to the astral plane to meet up with a loved one who has crossed over. The term astral projection refers to some form of out-of-body experience (OBE) where the mind remains consciously aware inside an “astral body” separate from the physical body.  There are many theories that try to explain the phenomena; however unless one has actually experienced astral travel the idea in itself is literally hard to grasp.  I stumbled across the term sometime ago while reading up on New Age ideas, and at first I thought it was bogus until I encountered some out of the ordinary incidents.

A couple of months ago I was taking a nap when I was suddenly awakened by something going on outside.  I immediately drifted back to sleep.  Not too long after, I awoke to my body vibrating all over.  Even though I was somewhat startled I was more intrigued than anything.  My whole body from my head to my toes was literally “buzzing” vibrating at a high frequency.  Although I had no clue as to what was happening with my body, I couldn’t help but to remain motionless to see what would happen next.  To my dismay, the vibrations ceased and I drifted back to sleep.  Over the next couple of weeks I did some light research trying to figure out what it was that I experienced.  It wasn’t until I stumbled onto a post on AboveTopSecret, about Astral Projection, that I found a suitable explanation.  The author of the post wrote quite extensively on how to astral project; it was his mention of the vibrating body that connected my experience to astral projection.  In summary, he said that when you have such an occurrence you should try to lift your “astral body” out of your physical body.  As you can imagine I was rather excited about the possibility of being able to astral project so I only had to wait until I encountered another vibrating sensation.

It was only about two or three weeks later that I was fortunate enough to have this same set of events happen again.  I was sleeping when I woke up to use the restroom.  After returning to bed I dozed off again and shortly thereafter I awoke again to my whole body buzzing all over.  This time however, I knew what was taking place and therefore made my first attempt at astral projection.  I positioned myself so I was lying on my back.  Then, trying to be as subtle as possible, I slowly lifted up my arms and gently sat up.  Amazingly, I actually got out of bed with my “astral body” while leaving my physical body laying there on the bed.  I walked out of the room and down the hallway and returned back to my bedside.  For a moment I just stood there looking back at myself lying on the bed.  I have to admit, however, that the experience was quite surreal.  And the skeptic inside of me still wonders if it was merely a dream after all.  The unfortunate thing that bothers me the most is that I am unable to duplicate the experience to this day.  I still don’t understand how I was able to get my body to vibrate, or if it was even something I did or didn’t do.  It could have been any number of variables or set of events that led up to the occurrences.  My only other experience since then was a rather vivid dream of me flying around a neighborhood of houses, which depending on the definition could be considered another OBE.

For both occurrences that I had I was suddenly awakened, fell back asleep, and then was awoken by the vibrating sensations.  I have read that astral projection takes place when our brains are in the delta state.  Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of compelling information when it comes to astral projection and brain waves.  Of course, there are plenty of sites out there that offer helpful tips and information on astral travel for only a “nominal fee.”  The problem is that these sites can only offer you information with no guarantee that it will work for you.  In the bible book of Matthew 7:7-8(NIV) Jesus is quoted as saying,

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

If you want to master astral travel take the advice of Jesus and keep seeking and the door will be opened for you. Do your research, meditate daily, pray to your higher “god” and seek advice from your spirit guides. The answer is there for all of us, we just need to open our eyes and receive it. I too will be following my own advice and I know someday soon I will experience more “Good Vibrations.”

I think I experienced an out of body experience once as a teenager, although it was during the use of marijuana, so skeptics could argue that it was just a side effect of the pot. Anyway, here’s what happened: I was high as a kite and sitting at the kitchen table with two friends who were deep in conversation and not paying any attention to me. Suddenly I felt myself lift up out of my body, and then I blacked out. I have no idea how much time passed, but when I regained consciousness I felt myself go back down into my body. My friends were still engrossed in their conversation, so either the experience only lasted minutes, or they were paying no attention to me whatsoever. I have wondered where my spirit went if it did indeed leave my body (it probably went to discuss with my guides about how to get this teenager off drugs!). That wasn’t the first time I had been stoned, and it wouldn’t be the last, but it was the only time I ever felt like I left my physical body. I am not advocating drug use for spiritual experimentation, but I think it’s an interesting topic to discuss.

Drugs, particularly psychedelics, have been used for eons as a means of communication with the spirit world. Back in the 1960’s and 70’s Psychologist Timothy Leary advocated the use of LSD for therapeutic, emotional and spiritual benefits. The Doors front man Jim Morrison also experimented with LSD to try to raise his consciousness. Many Native Americans used peyote, or mescaline, in their spiritual ceremonies. Back in the day, when the “peace pipe” was passed around, it wasn’t tobacco they were smoking.

Ancient rock art has been found all over the world depicting the use of hallucinogens, including Psilocybin mushrooms, also called “shrooms” or “magic mushrooms”. These paintings pre-date the advent of writing, and some have been dated as old as 10,000 years. According to one website I visited while researching this topic, the way the mushrooms cause a spiritual experience are as follows: ‘the sensing of God’ experience is caused by the following effects: (1) a strong awareness of living now and here (no past, no future, no there, just here and now) (2) a strong feeling of ‘uncensored perception’ (seeing the real world) (3) the shift from a state of ‘survival-consciousness’ (geared to fulfilling ones needs, getting things done, avoiding dangers) to a ‘let-go-consciousness (there’s nothing to do besides being part of the universe). However, if a person isn’t able to let go and ‘float on the flow’ MMs may cause severe fear and paranoia and heaven can turn into hell.

As I said above I am not encouraging people to go out and take hallucinogens in order to get in touch with the spirit world. Actually I think that in most cases it would probably be a bad idea. Meditation and prayer would be much better alternatives. I just think it’s interesting that for thousands of years, people all over the earth have tried anything and everything they could find to try and communicate with the spirit world, including taking mind-altering substances.

Maybe you were abducted by Aliens.

Wouldn’t that be crazy if I started having repressed memories of something like that?

    Hey, Todd,
you seem to have experienced an interesting surreal situation. I must admit I have never been in a similar state (delta state, as you reffer to it), although I always get interested in such stories whenever I hear them. Guess it comes from curiosity of what are our body and mind capable of doing. Could it be that you were just dreaming of it, as you cannot recall it actually happened? Maybe yes…but, then again, why bothering and spoiling the feeling? The important thing is that you believe.

I remember feeling the “vibrations” for the first time. They were so powerful I was amazed. I didn’t let myself get overly excited however because I didn’t want a failed attempt. I got out of body for the first time and the adventure was amazing!

The way he astral body fits into the physical body can be compared to how sugar fits into a glass of water. The molecules of the astral body fit inbetween the molecules of the physical body. You can experience astral projection at the unconscious level or at the conscious level. It can be spontaneous or controlled. You can become aware of it at some point in a dream or at the beginning or end of a dream. I find that the best way to project out of the body is to totally relax the physical body by using a relaxation technique then to speed up the astral body by reciting the Lord’s Prayer. I can also focus on a point in the room or place my eyes slightly out of focus by looking down toward the tip of my nose. This starts the vibrating of the molecules of the astral body although that sensation is not always felt. The most common way for the astral body to project is to lift up out of the physical body and float toward the ceiling. It can look down at the physical body but may become startled at how the body looks through the astral eyes and pop back in. Or, it can float through the ceiling and out of the building or house. The 4th dimension is the home of the astral body, and one navigates around by thought. However, it’s not exactly true that one can go wherever one wishes to go because it is the Higher Self who helps one with an astral projection experience. If the intention is to do ego building, the Higher Self may terminate the experience. It is helpful to read about astral projection to help you get in the right mindset before attempting an experience.
